During the Depression years of the 1930s, it was quite common to rework clothing in your existing wardrobe to make fresh, new-looking garments, because no one but the rich had money to spend on new dresses. This vintage 1930s evening gown is an example of that re-working. Fashioned of orange rayon crepe with a subtle stripe in the weave, the bottom of the original gown was cut off and used to make a wrap jacket. Solid orange crepe was used to make a new skirt for the dress, and sewn on at the knees. The dress has a bias-cut bodice with a cowl neckline that dips lower in the back. It closes with snaps at the side. The wrap jacket has elbow length sleeves and long sashes that tie at the back. Both pieces are unlined. Much of this dress is sewn by hand.

CONDITION: As Found – There are several small holes in the solid orange crepe fabric at the center front and one at the back hem. There are two areas of fade at the back hip of the dress. There are two grey spots on the back of the jacket. Some of the hand sewing is a bit rough. Fabric should be considered fragile, and care should be taken if you plan to wear it. Sold “As Is” with no returns accepted.
