SOLD Vintage 30s Purple Silk Gold Lame Evening Gown Dress Large bust 40
This exquisite vintage 1930s evening gown was originally sold by Julius Garfinckel & Co., Washington D.C.'s premier fashion store. I must be honest, I have never, ever had a 1930s dress in a larger size and I can assure you that a gown this gorgeous is a rare treat indeed. Fashioned of purple silk chiffon and gold lame jacquard, the fabric boasts a beautiful floral pattern in the weave. I've shown pictures of both the front and reverse of the fabric so you can see the extensive gold lame threads. The front bodice is adorned with two panels that extend from the shoulders to below the bust. The attached belt has a rhinestone and bakelite buckle with blue and crystal rhinestones. The dress is lined in royal blue taffeta. There are hooks and eyes at the left side of the lining only. The outer dress does not have any openings. Please allow enough ease to slip the dress on over your head.

CONDITION: Very Good – Due to the age of this dress, I have not had it dry cleaned. However, it has been properly stored and is wearable as it is. There are rings at the underarms, but they tend to hide behind those front panels. The belt has been hand stitched to the dress. The lining is made of two different blue fabrics. In examining this, it is my opinion that this is either original to the dress, or is an alteration that was done by Garfinckel's for the original customer. More recently, someone has stitched the lining and dress together along the bodice seams with royal blue thread. This is not at all visible on the outside of the dress, but I wanted to mention it for accuracy. No holes, no splits, no dulling of the gold lame. The fabric is strong and sound, although you should always take care when wearing a dress of this age.
