Vintage 40s GERMAINE MONTABERT Hat Feathers
We have recently acquired a large collection of fabulous hats from the estate of Mrs. F. E. Plankenhorn of Williamsport, PA. Mrs. Plankenhorn's husband was the owner of the Penn Garment Co. and Plankenhorn Braid Works. As the wife of a man in the fashion business, it was Mrs. Plankenhorn's job to look stylish at all times. Her hat collection reflects this and over the next couple of weeks, we'll be offering her marvelous hats here at Couture Allure.
This black velvet hat by New York milliner Germaine Montabert was originally sold at the exclusive May Steinberg boutique in Williamsport and dates to the early 1940s. The hat is fashioned of black velveteen and is designed to sit tilted to the right. Large black feather plumes stand erect on the left side and a black velveteen cord bow sits at the bottom of the feathers. The hat is lined in black taffeta. Measures 21" around the inner hat band. Excellent condition.
