Vintage 40s Silk Crepe Evening Gown Small bust 36

This gorgeous evening gown dates to the early 1940s and was made by custom dressmaker Helen M. Clark in Reading, Pennsylvania. Fashioned of black silk satin-backed crepe, the inner bodice and sashes are of bright orange rayon crepe. The orange inner bodice is fitted to the bust and has sheer cotton shoulder straps that are meant to be hidden. It closes at the side with snaps under the side metal zipper. The black crepe outer bodice is looser with smocking at the shoulders. It floats over the orange inner bodice. The long slim skirt falls straight from the empire bodice seam. There is a short slit at the front hem. Long orange crepe sashes are attached below the center front empire seam and can be worn wrapped and tied to the back or in a bow at the front. The dress is unlined.

CONDITION: Excellent – Freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. The cotton shoulder straps on the orange inner bodice both were broken from years of hanging and will need to be replaced. This is easily accomplished with ribbon or seam binding. There is one small grey spot on one of the sashes, but this is not noticeable.
