SOLD Vintage 50s ADELE MARTIN Applique Dress Sweater Set Small bust 36
$0.00

I’ve told you before how rare it is to find an advertisement for an identical vintage garment. I’m always thrilled when it happens. Not only does it accurately date an item, but it often helps to visualize that items as it was originally worn. The ad shown is from the November 17, 1959 issue of the Oakland Tribune.

This dress and sweater set by Adele Martin was one of her specialties in the late 1950s and early 60s. She did multiple variations on the basic sheath and decorated sweaters to match. This dress is fashioned of beige rayon that has a herringbone weave and is a dead ringer for silk. The dress has a large floral applique that has been cut from another fabric and sewn on by machine. The dress has a notched neckline and closes in the back with a metal zipper. The matching sweater is fashioned of beige orlon acrylic and has a smaller floral applique above the right bust. It also sports a Peter Pan collar made of the dress fabric. No closures on the sweater and both pieces are unlined.
