This exquisite vintage 1950s dress is a French designer piece, but alas the labels are gone. I know it was made in France because of the Eclair brand fine metal zipper. The dress looks like two pieces but is actually one. It is fashioned of black silk satin with a devoré velvet fern pattern that exudes quiet but rich elegance. The top portion has a V neckline and 3/4 sleeves. The skirt portion has a grograin waistband that forms the inner waist stay of the dress. The two pieces are hand stitched together at the seams on the inside so the top is separate from the skirt. At the back, the two pieces become one with the long metal zipper closure that is sewn in by hand. The top is unlined, the skirt has a stiff Pellon lining that helps hold the flared shape. CONDITION: Excellent – Dress is freshly dry
cleaned and ready to wear. There are 3 hand-stitched thread loops below the right front waist where some type of decoration was originally attached. Whatever went there is now gone, but this does not detract at all from the design of the dress. The little thread loops are nearly invisible and I would leave them in place.
