This incredible vintage early 1950s New Look suit was designed by Paris couturier Jacques Heim for American suit manufacturer Bellciano.  The suit is fashioned from black silk satin.  The jacket is a marvel of tailoring with a padded and weighted peplum at the hips.  Bands of silk satin with swirls are applied by hand at the front opening edges, the collar, the hem, and at the front waist of the skirt.  The jacket has long sleeves with fold-back cuffs.  It closes at the front with self-fabric halo buttons and loops.  The jacket is lined in cream silk crepe.  The skirt is given fullness with graceful pleats at the front.  It has a faced waistline with a side metal zipper and inner petersham waistband that closes with hooks. CONDITION: Very Good – Freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. The skirt has been altered by taking in the back center seam from hips to waist. The inner petersham waistband was cut and resewn by hand at the center back.  This is not visible from the outside, but this is why the skirt waist is so much smaller than the jacket.  The original seam width remains, so you could let the skirt back out, but needle marks may remain in the silk and the petersham waistband will need to be replaced. There are two small scratches in the silk at the back upper right of the jacket near the armhole seam.  The silk lining has separated at the inner neckline.
