SOLD Vintage 50s TINA LESER Asymmetric Draped Dress Small bust 37"

Tina Leser was one of the best designers of American sportswear in the 1940’s and 50’s. Much of her design inspiration came from the traditional ethnic costumes of foreign countries and the fabrics that she found on her travels throughout the world. This dress from the early to mid 1950’s is fashioned from a gorgeous cotton broadcloth printed with butterflies and fans. The colors are purple, green, and maroon on a mustard yellow ground. The skirt has an asymmetric design with a full drape at the left side that mimics a sarong. The skirt is lined in heavy pellon interfacing to hold it’s shape and there is a stiff panel on the inside left waist to support the drape. The front V neckline is also asymmetric, this time to the right to balance the drape of the skirt. A purple tassel hangs at the bottom of the V. The waistline is slightly dropped. The dress closes with a center back metal zipper and has an inner grograin waist stay. The bodice is unlined.
