This elegant suit comes straight out of the early 1960s Camelot era, when Jackie Kennedy was the world’s leading influence on fashion. This 3 piece suit was sold by the Jane Rumberger shop in Columbus, Ohio. The jacket and skirt are fashioned of silk shantung in a gorgeous taupe color. The co-ordinating fitted top is fashioned of silk jacquard that is woven with metallic gold threads in a floral pattern. The jacket collar and cuffs are of the same jacquard. The boxy jacket closes with self-fabric buttons and bound buttonholes at the front. It is lined in taupe silky rayon. The top closes with a center back separating metal zipper and is lined with taupe taffeta. The straight skirt has a set-on waistband and side nylon zipper. It is lined in taupe batiste. My inner vintage detective feels that the top was originally a 1950s dress that was cut down and the extra fabric was used to make the collar and cuffs for the jacket. The style of the top is a bit more fitted than we would see in the early 1960s, but I think the 3 pieces together make a wonderful suit! And what an ingenious way for the original owner to re-use and update her wardrobe!
