Donald Brooks, a leader in fashion in the 1960s and 70s, was cited by the New York Times as one of “the three B’s of fashion” alongside Geoffrey Beene and Bill Blass. He was one of Jackie Kennedy’s favorite designers. After several years at Townley, Brooks opened his own business in 1965 and was known for his bold geometric patterns and vibrant prints. This coat encompasses the iconic Donald Brooks look.

This 1973 spring weight coat is fashioned from cotton canvas in tan with a graphic print of black peas in pods (!). An advertisement for this coat appeared in the March 1973 issue of Vogue magazine in which it is cleverly called “The Pea Coat”. Imagine wearing this coat on a grey rainy day. Wouldn’t it make you happy? The coat has wide lapels and is a wrap style, with the only closure being the matching sash tie belt. Large flapped patch pockets at the hips close with black buttons and bound buttonholes. The coat is lined in beige crepe.  Original price – $375.00. CONDITION: Very Good – There is a 1" faint green ink mark at the back of the right sleeve that my dry cleaner was unable to completely remove. I did ask my dry cleaner to be gentle with this coat. Slight dingy marks remain at the ends of the sash belt, the inner neckline, and at the inner sleeve cuffs. There is one 1/4" faint yellow spot at the front opening edge at about hip level.
