The work of Galanos is as close to true haute couture as you can get in a ready-to-wear garment. Each piece is hand finished with the finest of details and intricate construction.  This vintage early 1960s dress and jacket ensemble is in the style made so popular by Jackie Kennedy during her White House years.  Fashioned of charcoal gray wool, the dress has short sleeves and a slightly flared skirt.  The front of the skirt is cut on the bias so the fullness drapes beautifully on the body.  There are two deep pleats at each side of the skirt front for added interest, and pockets are hidden inside the second pleat.  The dress closes at the back left princess seam with a hand stitched nylon zipper.  There are buttons and snaps at the front bodice from neckline to waist and the dress is completely lined in black silky rayon.  The matching jacket closes with the same metal buttons and bound buttonholes.  In an unusual touch, Galanos lined the jacket in black silk jacquard.  It looks pretty when you remove the jacket!  Original price – $345.00.
