Norman Norell, who started his own company in 1960, was well known for his waistless chemise style. This vintage mid-to-late 1960s Norell dress, while not without issues, is one of those iconic Norell dresses. Fashioned of heavy wool knit jersey in a warm cream color, this dress is beautifully tailored and features the best in American couture construction techniques. Simple in shape, there are pockets at the front hips, raglan sleeves that are cut-in-one with the body of the dress, and a tiny stand up collar. There are short hand-set nylon zippers at the sleeve cuffs and the dress closes at the back with a nylon zipper. It is completely lined in white silky. Note: While we love the look of this dress belted, the chain belt shown is NOT included.

CONDITION: Good – Freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. There are 4 extremely faint yellowed spots that did not come all the way out with cleaning. These are all below the waist and not very noticeable. There is one moth hole in the front of the right sleeve at bust level. There are moth holes at the back hem. Two are visible on the outside of the dress and the rest are in the turn under portion and not visible from the outside. These could disappear if you take up the hem. There are a couple of moth nibbles (not holes) at the front left side at bust level, but these are not noticeable. The center back seam has been let out, and the center front seam of the lining has been let out to correspond to this alteration. When the center back seam was let out, the zipper was put back in with machine stitches, although very professionally done. Sold “As Is” with no returns accepted. Price reflects condition and is a bargain for a piece by this designer.
