This dress from early in Oscar de la Renta’s career can accurately be dated to 1966 or 67 due to the Jane Derby name on the label. De la Renta bought an interest in the Jane Derby company in 1965 and then took it over after Derby died in 1965. Derby’s name was removed from the label sometime in 1967.
This full length maxi dress is fashioned from silk in two tones of turquoise blue and white. De la Renta has cleverly inserted two vertical striped panels cut from the fabric at the front princess seams. In seam pockets are hidden in those princess seams at the hips. The dress closes with a hand set nylon zipper at the back left princess seam and hooks and eyes at the left shoulder. It is lined in white silk organza and there is heavy horsehair braid at the hem.
