The Sorelle Mascetti, or Mascetti Sisters, had a shop on the Via Veneto, the most expensive and exclusive street in Rome. There is very little information about them, but they did provide some of the costumes for the 1960s Italian film, “Five Branded Women”. This early 1960s cocktail set consists of a dress with matching jacket, both exquisitely hand beaded in black. Fashioned of black silk/worsted blend, the dress has an overbodice that is attached at the neckline and floats over the bodice lining. The beading is found at the dress neckline and hem. The hem has hidden wide horsehair braid to hold the slightly flared shape of the skirt. The dress closes with two center back metal zipper, one in the lining and one in the overbodice. The boxy jacket has a funnel neckline and the same beading at the neckline and hem. It closes at the front with three ball buttons and loops. Both pieces are lined in black silk.
