I have to be honest with you. This is my favorite of all the vintage coats I’ve sold over the years and if I had any chance of ever fitting into it, it would be hanging in my closet and not in yours. But alas, it is not to be for me.
This stunning cotton velveteen coat by Bill Blass for Saks Fifth Avenue dates to the early 1970’s. Take a look at how beautifully that paisley pattern is matched at the seams and front opening. The colors are deep navy blue and tan. Closely fitted to the waist, the skirt flares out in an A-line and has a deep slit from waist to hem at the back. The coat closes at the front with hidden snaps; there are no buttons to ruin the flow of the paisley pattern. There are in-seam pockets in the front princess seams at the hips. The coat is completely lined in navy taffeta that is likely silk. The lining is sewn in by hand, a true sign of a high end piece.
