Before I tell you about this dress, I want to tell you a bit about the textile. Phyllis Kresnoff was a Chicago and Italy based artist who worked in sculpture, ceramics, fabrics, and jewelry. You can view Phyllis Kresnoff’s obituary by clicking the link. Her fabric designs were silk screened in Lake Como, Italy, and then much of it was sent to Rebecca, a California designer who made them into clothing. This is an extremely rare piece that belongs in a museum or art gallery!
This vintage late 1970’s dress is by Rebecca and was sold by I. Magnin. It is fashioned of a thin rayon jersey knit that is silk screened in a signed Phyllis Kressnoff print in vibrant red, orange, yellow, navy, green, and white. The slim body-hugging design has an asymmetric neckline and one long sleeve. The dress closes with a nylon zipper at the left side and is unlined.
