Bob Mackie was one of the masters of over-the-top evening wear in the 1980s, and this dress is a great example of the genius of his work. Fashioned of lighter-than-air silk chiffon in ombre pink with white polka dots, Mackie uses the changing colors of the silk to great advantage. He centers the darkest pink at the front and back bodice and allows the skirt to show the gradations of color. The drop waisted bodice is strapless with ruching over the bust and down the center front, which is also accented with fabric covered buttons. The full, full skirt is fashioned of one layer of pink dotted silk, one layer of off-white silk chiffon, and one layer of white rayon lining with an incredibly full white silk chiffon ruffle at the hem for added fullness. The bodice has 12 bones and an inner waist stay for full support and a stiff interlining. It is lined in white silky rayon and the center back nylon zipper is set in by hand. Originally sold by Saks Fifth Avenue.
