In doing research about this dress, I found that dresses by Mme. Grès are almost impossible to find. This dress dates to the mid 1980’s and is from her Grès Boutique line. This was probably from one of her last collections before the label went bankrupt in 1987. Fashioned of soft and fluid silk faille, the dress has an oversized blouson bodice that is slightly gathered into a fitted waist. The sleeves have a deep dolman cut and there are shoulder pads. The slim fitted skirt is also slightly gathered onto the waist. The dress closes with an Eclair fine metal zipper at the side from waist to hip. There are 3 buttons and loops above the zipper. The dress is completely lined in black China silk. Labeled size 40, the bodice is meant to be very loose fitting. This dress would look great belted, but there is no belt, nor is there any indication that there ever was one.
