Pauline Trigere was one of America’s most admired designers. This coat bears the high end Trigere label, not the licensed “A Trigere Coat” label that was lower in cost. Fashioned of a loosely woven fuzzy navy blue mohair wool, this coat likely dates to the early 80’s, when Trigere was doing these unpressed tucks to give her skirts a slight balloon shape. Long vertical seams in the bodice open out to those unpressed tucks at the hip. The soft, loosely woven fabric gives this coat a very unstructured look and feel, but the tailoring is beautifully done. The raglan sleeves are belled in shape. The coat has a funnel neckline and the opening edge is set slightly to the left side. The coat closes with two hooks and eyes, one about 3" below the upper edge and the other at the waist. I am fairly confident this coat originally came with a belt, but it is now gone. We have shown the coat with a belt, but it is NOT included. It also seems likely that there was probably a decorative button at the upper corner of the opening, but I can find no evidence that one was ever there. But wouldn’t this be a great place to show off a sparkly vintage brooch or three? The coat is completely lined in navy satin. No shoulder pads. Original price – $275.00. All sale items are Final Sale with no returns accepted.
