Pauline Trigere was one of America’s most famous designers. Her clothing was always elegant and wearable, and she was known for designing with unusual textiles or adding something unexpected to her garments. She also loved to combine red and black. This Trigere suit dates to about 1980. It is fashioned from two identical silk faille fabrics with reverse colorways in red and black. The jacket is red with black and has a padded edge at the front opening, neckline, and all around the hem. The sleeves have tucks at the top, fold back cuffs, and there are 3/4" shoulder pads. The jacket closes at the front with a hidden button and loop at the waist and is lined in red silk georgette.

The A-line skirt is black with red silk faille and has a padded hemline. It has a set-on waistband and side nylon zipper and is completely lined in black China silk.

The matching blouse is fashioned of sheer red silk georgette. It is ingeniously decorated with black prong-set rhinestones that mimic the leaf pattern of the faille. I can’t imagine the work that went into this piece! The body of the blouse is gathered into the collar. The collar is padded and the blouse buttons down the back with black faceted glass buttons. It is lined in nude color silk chiffon.

A matching sash is included, which can be worn as a belt a the waist or as an ascot at the neckline.

CONDITION: Very Good – There are several tiny black spots at the front left of the jacket and one 1" grey line at the front right of the jacket. These did not respond to dry cleaning. You could artfully arrange the sash to cover these issues. Price reflects condition.
